Dr. Art CoxEarly in his medical career, noted Birmingham facial plastic surgeon Dr. Art Cox was captivated by the unique challenges of facial plastic surgery. “The mix of the artistic considerations of facial shape and form with the scientific and practical elements of functionality truly fascinated me,” said Cox. “When I found plastic surgery, I felt like I’d found a home.”

After medical school at the University of Alabama Birmingham, Dr. Cox completed his internship at Methodist Hospital of Dallas and a residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Saint Louis University in Missouri. He went on to complete a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland. Certified by the Board of Otolaryngology and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, he is also a Diplomate: American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Devoted to advancing understanding and improving the practice of facial plastic surgery, Dr. Cox serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he received the Argus Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003 and was named Faculty Member of the Year in 2007 by Otolaryngology Residents.

Dr. Cox’s passion for education extends to his private practice, where he is known for an attentive bedside manner, collaborative approach and deep commitment to patient understanding of all aspects of their treatment options and care. In addition to managing a thriving practice, Dr. Cox also enjoys travel, sailing and spending time with his family.
