Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, or nasal reshaping, is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the nose, its function or both. Dependent upon the desires and needs of the particular patient, these results can be achieved by modifying the bone of the upper nose structure, the cartilage of the lower portion of the nose, the skin, or all three. Rhino-plasty is usually performed under general anesthesia and necessitates a thorough discus-sion with your surgeon to customize a very specific plan for you. It can be helpful to bring pictures of noses you admire to the consultation. Or, if your problem is due to trauma or previous surgery, it is recommended to bring in pre-trauma or pre-surgery pictures of yourself from the front and the side. Most patients will experience bruising around the eyes and generalized swelling around the nose for one to two weeks. Breathing post-operatively may be partially compromised initially due to swelling, and patients have to be careful to avoid trauma to their nose post-operatively.
